Dancing with the Devil

When you make a deal with a creditor, for all intents and purposes, you are making a deal with the devil… Figuratively speaking, of course. Purchases made on sheer impulse and without consideration or contemplation play right into the devil’s hands.

You see, that’s how the devil works. He draws you in by dangling material items before you and then tricks you into believing you can afford them when he knows good and damn well you can’t. You know it too but you convince yourself that you’ll find a way.

The next thing you know, you find yourself falling way behind on payments with the devil knocking on your door looking to cash in on the deal you made. He doesn’t care about your sick mother or that your car broke down on the way to work. He’s coming to collect and will do so by any means necessary.

Don't Judge Me

I’m always reluctant to tell people that I’m the owner of a blog called “Bill Collectors Hate Me.” Not because I’m embarrassed or ashamed, but because the title alone makes them think that I don’t pay my bills which couldn’t be anything further from the truth.

Sure, I’ve had credit problems in the past but those days are long behind me. It’s because of my past that I’m able to bring you this great information from my own personal experiences. This blog is more about who I was, not who I am… and it’s of the utmost importance that people know that.

So contrary to popular belief, I do pay my bills. Furthermore, I can’t even tell you the last time I’ve been late on one. My credit is not great, but rather a work in progress that improves almost each and every month. It improves because I work very hard at it… and that’s what you must do!

The Black Box

There are several moments in life where it would be nice to go back in time and see the mistakes we made as we were making them. This way, we could warn our closest friends and family members to prevent them from falling victim to the same pitfalls as we did.

Wouldn’t it be cool if all humans were equipped with a “black box” that could be viewed right after an emergency financial crisis such as when you were forced to file bankruptcy after years of overspending and bad decisions?

The black box could be retrieved from our brains via wireless connection similar to Bluetooth that could then be output to a laptop that would provide a chronological display of every poor credit decision you've ever made; right up until the financial crash point. Yea, that would be pretty cool.

Bad Credit: Life's Dirty Little Secret

Bad credit is one of life’s dirty little secrets. For the most part, if a person has bad credit they will keep that information close to the vest; carrying it to their grave if they have to, in order to keep from sharing their poor decisions with even the closest of family and friends.

Contrary to popular belief, in today’s economy you might be surprised to find out that the majority of your friends have bad credit too! A great many of them have filed bankruptcy at least once, all the while keeping this information under wraps.

Just like the proverbial elephant in the room, people make a conscious decision to ignore what is staring them right in the face. They're afraid that if they share their credit past with anyone, that they will be judged like some second class citizen so they continue to live the lie.

In all honesty, I get it. I used to be the same way until one day I woke up and decided to just let it all hang out. I decided to no longer keep my credit status a secret and I found out that by telling people of the mistakes I’ve made in the past, that it was therapeutic. I feel much better now… and so will you!

Just Pay Your Damn Bills!

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been accused of teaching people how to “NOT” pay their bills. People read the title of my blog and automatically assume that I am on some kind of crazy, cult-like movement against debt collectors and everything they stand for.

They think I’m like the pied piper with thousands of followers just waiting on my every word as I lead them to the promised land of debt free living by means of not paying back the people they owe. Hell, if I had that type of influence I certainly wouldn’t be wasting it on something as trivial as that!

On my Facebook page you’ll find several comments like: “Just pay your damn bills!” These comments come without even reading my blog to find out what it’s about. I would never advise people to not pay their bills. I only suggest that when they do pay, that they negotiate terms that favor themselves and not the debt collector.
